This is the the 400th anniversary of Francophone presence in Ontario and the city is recognizing the importance.

The Franco-Ontarian Flag was raised in the courtyard at Tom Davies Square this morning.

Ward 6 Councillor Rene Lapierre got the motion passed and says city hall is the perfect place to honour the milestone.

He says Francophones make up close one-third of Sudbury’s population.

More than 600-thousand Francophones live in Ontario which is the largest French speaking community in Canada outside of Quebec.
