The Canadian Blood Services says the need for blood is down, therefore we could see some downsizing of services over the next few months.

In Sudbury the blood collection centre is safe, but the 150 full time employees at the Canadian Blood Services Contact Centre on Elm Street, who have been without a contract since March 2014, fear their jobs could be in jeopardy.

Kerri Chevrier is a union rep for OPSEU, the union which represents those workers, and she says there is some controversy because there seems to be a high demand for blood, so why the need to cut.

Chevrier says cutting the services will make it even more challenging for people to give blood.

The CBS says a change of their collection model has led to a reduction in blood collection by 40 thousand units nationally.
