HS Teachers on Strike

By Angela Gemmill

A few factors in the teachers’ labour dispute could be determined this week.

The Ontario Labour Relations Board should rule on its decision soon, after three schools boards in Ontario, including the Rainbow District School Board, asked to have the respective teachers’ strikes ruled as “unlawful”.

The labour board’s hearing was extended into this week.

The other update is that a new Mediator is being brought in to help with the central negotiations and will meet with reps from the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation tomorrow.

Today is Day 23 of the walkout by the 500 public high school teachers in Sudbury and 5,000 remain home from school because of it.

This Thursday, high school teachers in Ottawa and Halton Region will begin an administrative strike.
