sudbury rocks marathon 2015

This Sunday morning 2,000 participants will be running and walking on local streets for the annual Sudbury Rocks! Race, Run or Walk for Diabetes.

This is the 10th year for the event, which raises money for programs, services and research by the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Programs, Services and Partnerships Coordinator with the CDA in Sudbury, Heather Robertson, says the number of participants grows every year.

She attributes that to the race appealing to everyone: elite athletes, average runners, participants pushing strollers and those who want to support the diabetes initiatives.

Robertson reminds motorists to be patient because traffic could be delayed in some areas.

Only one street will be closed -Brady from Minto to Medina, but numerous streets will be down to one lane with pylons spread out.

Volunteer race Marshals will be directing participants, while police direct traffic.

Since the event started in 2006, almost 500,000 has been raised through the event which features a full and half marathon length, along with 10K, 5K and a one-kilometre race for kids.

Participants can pick up their race kits at the Race Expo Saturday at Ecole Sacre Cour on Notre Dame Avenue from 9am-5pm.
